Consumers seeking frequent sex in marriage may be disappointed, study finds

Americans living as couples had sex 16 fewer times per year in 2010-2014 compared to 2000-2004 said a survey

The bottom line: Fewer young adults are in committed relationships, which could be contributing to the decline in sex frequency for that age cohort.

A new study analyzing 26,000 people has found married couples and millennials are less sexually active than previous generations.

Researchers found that adults had sex about nine fewer times per year than they did back in the late 1990s.

It's really hard to dispute science (even if we really want to), but Americans aren't really having a lot of sex these days. By 2014, that slid to about 55.

The Browns are still trying to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo
In addition to Cleveland, both the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers have have been linked to Garoppolo. Until we know whether or not Garoppolo wants to play for the Browns , we can't know how likely a trade is.

The report, which was published Tuesday, analyzed data collected from 1989 to 2014 and found adults living in the US had sex seven to nine times fewer than what they did in the 1990s. "Smartphones. Social media. All of those things". Another reason people are having less sex, suggests the study, might be a higher incidence of depression.

Furthermore, data collected from the General Social Survey (a nationally representative sample of more than 26,000 USA adults who were asked about their sexual behavior dating back to 1989) revealed that overall, Americans had sex a total of about nine fewer times per year between 2010 and 2014 than they did between 1995 and 1999.

"While it is the case that partnered individuals have sex more frequently than unpartnered individuals, this difference has been shrinking", Ryne Sherman, Ph.D., co-author of the study and an associate professor of psychology in Florida Atlantic University's Charles E. Schmidt College of Science, told TODAY via email. "I would say the number one cause for a lack of sex is fatigue, " she said.

"What you need for a sex life is energy, focus, and time and the right mood, " she said.

IDC: Wearable Market Drivers are Clearly Health and Fitness For Now
Fitbit shipped 6.5 million units in the same period, holding the top position with 19.2 percent market share. During the quarter, Apple took third place in the overall market behind No. 2 Xiaomi and leader Fitbit.

The study follows research published by the same team a year ago which found that the percentage of adults aged between 20 and 24 who had had no sexual partner after the age of 18 had more than doubled between those born in the 1960s and the 1990s, rising from 6% to 15%.

"Despite their reputation for hooking up, Millennials and the generation after them [iGen or Generation Z] are actually having sex less often than their parents and grandparents did when they were young", said Twenge. For example, Americans in their 20s had sex an average of about 80 times per year, compared to about 20 times per year for those in their 60s. By age 45, they're having sex about 60 times a year and by age 65, it's down to 20 intimate cavorts a year.

In order to compare the habits of different age groups (people born in the '60s versus people born in the '80s, for example) the researchers determined the ratios between how often those various groups have sex, and adjusted the numbers to balance out the known decrease in sexual frequency that comes with aging. "Indeed, the so-called "partnered advantage" in sexual frequency has been rapidly diminishing in recent years". It revealed sexual frequency declined among people who are married or living together, but stayed steady among those without partners. "It's all about the satisfaction".

It appears that Americans are less fond of hitting the sack than they used to be.
