Hawaii-bound flight diverted to LAX after passenger complains about $12 blanket

A 66-year-old man threatened a flight attendant after he was charged $12 for a blanket.

The passenger became increasingly aggressive and then "made a statement that he wanted to "take somebody behind the woodshed" over this, which prompted the flight crew to contact the captain who then in turn diverted the aircraft to LAX", said Rob Pedregon of the Los Angeles Airport Police.

'You know, if I was a passenger on board that plane I would have paid the $12 for him, ' a laughing Pedregon said.

No crime had been committed, police added.

Pedregon said the incident may not be the oddest he has handled "but it ranks right up there".

"Diverting a flight is clearly not our first choice, but our crew felt it was necessary in this case to divert to Los Angeles and deplane the passenger before beginning to fly over the Pacific Ocean", Hawaiian Airlines spokeswoman Alison Croyle told CNN affiliate KCAL.
