Trump shakes up White House staff after setbacks

The White House has announced that deputy chief of staff Katie Walsh was leaving her position to "shore up" support with an outside conservative political group, America First Policies, which many in the administration had blamed for not providing sufficient support in the fight to pass Trumpcare, Politico reported Thursday.

Walsh was one of the few women holding a senior role in the Trump White House and was seen as a strong force for organization, though some Trump loyalists viewed her with suspicion because of her roots in the Republican establishment.

Deputy chief of staff Katie Walsh said Thursday she decided to make the move after the Trump-backed health care bill failed last week to amass enough support to clear the House.

Kathleen Quinn, 11, landed in the hospital after attempting to make homemade slime at her house in Rockland, Massachusetts. That's what may have been the case with Kathleen, who was woken in the middle of the night by a sudden pain in her hands.

Another source close to the White House said the decision for Walsh to leave and join the outside group was jointly made by Priebus, White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner.

Priebus and other White House officials stressed that Walsh was the one who made a decision to leave the administration. All three believed that she is the right person to give the administration the "air cover" it so desperately needs - and has been missing thus far.

CNN quoted a White House source who called the move a "tremendous loss", noting White House insiders were frustrated after the administration's failure to get Republicans to come together on a health care bill supported by Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan.
