One For Arthur adds tartan touch to Grand National

The Last Samuri tries again in Grand National

Lucinda Russell became the fourth woman to train the victor of the Grand National at Aintree - and the third in nine editions - when her eight-year-old One For Arthur saluted in the 170th running of the event on Sunday morning (AEDT).

It was a well-deserved few hours for the Sligo native having belied his inexperience with the coolest of rides to win the world's most famous steeplechase at the first attempt.

By the final fences Blaklion was being closely attended by a quartet of runners, of whom the duo travelling most powerfully were Cause Of Causes and One For Arthur.

"I think that the first time that Derek rode him this year at Kelso he came back and said, I've never ridden a horse like that and it's just great for him now to win the Grand National".

"It was an wonderful day and a unbelievable experience for me as an amateur".

"I've had a great partnership with the horse all year".

"He's the type of horse that warms into a race - that's just his style of running - so I was-half prepared for it".

"The person is not known to staff, so we just hope they remember they have won". With their partners spending most weekends on the golf course, they chose to get into the horse-racing business.

He added: "I was injured on 9 March, I got a heavy fall on the novice chase and that was four weeks ago on Thursday".

Myles Garrett makes threat if Browns don't take him No. 1 overall
It's important to say that he also played part of the season injured. "Over the last couple years, I've followed Myles Garrett ". A trade down would fit with Cleveland's current obsession to have as many baskets as possible for carrying their eggs.

He is sweet on his chances - his previous runner was 13th - and is a dream ride for Danny Cook, who Ellison says his orders to him will be "to stay calm". "He just jumped so well, even though he was a long way back, he was unbelievable". I was making lengths at every fence and once we started to pass one or two he was really enjoying it. Sometimes he gets criticised for being too far back but that's how he likes to ride them.

"There'll be a big party at Kinross", Russell said via The Telegraph, going on to credit jockey Derek Fox.

Deborah, from Gullane, East Lothian said: "I just can't believe it".

"It's the best feeling I've ever had". Derek's already beaten me with one ride.

His father, Michael, rode the 1959 victor and son, Tom has a great chance aboard one of the favourites, the David Pipe trained Vieux Lion Rouge.
