Phil Jackson: Carmelo Anthony 'better off somewhere else'

Knicks president Phil Jackson finally addresses the media

Phil Jackson has finally publicly admitted what we've all suspected for months, if not years: he wants the New York Knicks to get rid of Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks haven't made the playoffs since the 2012-13 season, though, which is especially troubling given that NY expected to return to the postseason this year after adding Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah last summer.

"We've not been able to win with [Anthony] on the court at this time", the Knicks president said.

Anthony, who turns 33 years old this offseason, has talked openly in the past about wanting to win in NY. As the tension grew between the two, Anthony at one point said he wanted to remain with the Knicks and would not waive his no-trade clause. They made it to the second round of the playoffs before being eliminated by the Indiana Pacers.

Anthony hasn't necessarily been quiet about the situation either, as he made a decision to post on Instagram to what seemed to be directed at Phil Jackson after his not so favorited comments.

The 2017 National Basketball Association off-season just started for the New York Knicks and it is already a disaster.

Jackson also said he needs to do a better job of "mentoring" next year and mentioned overseeing "game plans" and being more vocal at practices.

Jackson said to reporters, according to CBS Sports: "This guy plays 34 minutes a game". Carmelo has said numerous times that he loves the city and the team and wants nothing more than to stay a Knick.

Right there is the reason the signing of Jackson for another two years means the end for Melo.

Record-setting Coutinho promises more goals to come for Liverpool
The Belgian goalkeeper made two astonishing saves to keep his side on course for the victory. We thought he might be good enough for 30 minutes.

Based on what Jackson said to the media, it appears as though NY will put Anthony back on the trade market during the 2017 offseason.

After Jackson's remarks, Anthony posted a message - presumably for Jackson - on his Twitter and Instagram accounts. Convincing Anthony to come back, even for the most money, is a monumental achievement by comparison. Jackson said the comment was misconstrued, and said Anthony is an "elite" scorer and has had a Hall of Fame career, though he didn't praise other parts of Anthony's game or walk back earlier comments about Anthony holding the ball for too long.

"We had the opportunity to play with Derrick and see if he does have enough left in the tank. before we have to get into that [free] agent market again", Jackson shared with ESPN's Jackie MacMullan.
