Ryan says House to revisit health care, offers no details

TrumpCare Rears Its Ugly Head Again—And It's Even Worse Than Before

But he said Congress needed to act because insurers were developing the premiums and benefit packages for health plans they would offer in 2018, with review by federal and state officials beginning soon. The chairman of the House tax committee declared Monday he is "turning the page" from health care to tax reform....

While some House Republicans remain focused on "repeal and replace", a new conversation in Congress is starting on a different "R" word when it comes to Obamacare: fix.

Even before the bill was pulled last week there were hints that President Trump thought it might be better politically to let Obamacare continue to collapse on its own.

Ryan declined to say what might be in the next version of the Republicans' repeal bill, nor would he sketch any schedule for action.

Trump and Republican leadership were forced to pull their first-attempt to repeal Obamacare-the American Health Care Act-Friday after House conservatives and Democrats came out in staunch opposition. But it's a victory Vice President Mike Pence vowed "won't last very long" as Republicans seek to sabotage the ACA and cast the blame on the Democrats.

DAVIS: So I would say right now there's what I would call probably soul searching going on here in the Capitol and over at the White House about - how do they reconcile those competing campaign promises?

For many GOP lawmakers, the idea of giving up after just 18 days of work on health care changes, was not an option. It consisted of repealing the very revenues that were funding Obamacare. "We promised we will repeal and replace Obamacare, and that's exactly what we will do", he said.

Spicer said working with Democrats to create a health care bill would be "a balancing act" to obtain even "a handful or so, or maybe more" of votes across the aisle. "Our Democratic friends ought to be pretty happy about that because we have the existing law in place, and I think we're just going to have to see how that works out", McConnell said.

"I think it's going to happen because we've all been promising - Democrat, Republican - we've been promising that to the American people", he said.

Congressional leaders also said the bill was dead.

Archer outpitches Tanaka, Rays top Yankees 7-3 in Major League Baseball opener
A rare terrible start by Masahiro Tanaka put the Yankees down early on Sunday , and they were never able to get back in the game. While striking out 17 batters to just two walks is impressive, also keep in mind batters only hit.157/.181/.371 in 70 at-bats.

That includes an historic effort to overhaul the tax code, so work on health care will have to be done along a parallel track. "But at this time, at this time today, there are other things that we have on our priority list that we're moving on to".

For his part, Mr. Trump has said he would like to force Democrats to the negotiation table by allowing Obamacare to "implode", while moving on to tax reform and other agenda items.

He needs to hear from doctors, nurses and hospital administrators who are on the front lines of providing health care.

Sixty-five percent of registered voters either want to see the Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as Obamacare, maintained as is or strengthened, a 7-point uptick over a February McClatchy-Marist poll that asked the same question.
