The BBC reports police say there is more than one fatality following the three separate incidents.

It also recalled an attack on Westminster Bridge when 52-year-old British Muslim convert Khalid Mahmood rammed his auto into pedestrians before crashing into the barriers surrounding parliament and then stabbing a police officer to death.

Witnesses have said they saw an attacker "coldly" carrying out stabbings with a large blade in Borough market.

The UK is still reeling from a suicide bombing in Manchester earlier this month, which killed 22 people, many of them children, following a concert.

Some passersby told The Spectator's Will Heaven they saw 15-20 people struck on the bridge, while others said they saw 7-8. "And there were groups of people helping those people on the ground", he said.

London Bridge has been closed down. "He swerved right round me and then hit about five or six people".

Officers were seen dragging startled diners and revellers out of restaurants and bars and telling them to run.
