Serious injuries in Flathead Lake deck collapse

More than 50 people were hurt, some severely, after a deck collapsed at Spruce Lodge, a log cabin-style facility located on the west shore of Flathead Lake.

Most of the injured were taken in ambulances or transported by helicopters, while 10-15 people went on their own Saturday, Bell said.

Scores of people were attending a memorial service at the lodge when the large wooden balcony collapsed.

Authorities say 14 people were taken or drove themselves to a hospital after the second-story deck of a Montana lodge collapsed during a memorial event for a firefighter. "The operating rooms were busy well into the night".

Redskins owner says he's thrilled with ruling
Indian groups opposing the Redskins said the ruling does not change the fact that the name "is a dictionary-defined racial slur". A federal appeals court in Washington later ruled that the law barring offensive trademarks is unconstitutional.

The injured were treated at five area hospitals.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said Saturday evening there were no fatalities in the incident.

Leslie Dillon told the Daily Inter Lake (http://bit.ly/2sG2E4S ) that she was on the deck when it collapsed and that she walked away with bruising.

One of the first responders was the Lakeside/Somers Fire Department, Chief Tom Havens said.

Emergency services from Polson, Kalispell, Evergreen, and several other departments responded to a call of a deck collapse at Glacier Camp in Lakeside off of Highway 93 South.

The camp posted a message on its website Saturday, saying that a major accident had occurred and asked people to "please join us in praying for the injured and their families". Besides hosting a summer camp, it is a popular spot for religious retreats, weddings and other events. He says that the cause will be determined by the insurance investigator.
