SKorea leader proposes Asian nations co-host 2030 World Cup

FIFA President Gianni Infantino gives a press conference during the 67th FIFA Congress in the Bahraini capital Manama

President Moon Jae-in has met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who is visiting South Korea for the U-20 World Cup.

The run-up to the 2022 World Cup has also seen some controversy regarding thousands of migrant workers used to build the tournament's infrastructure, mostly from Nepal, India, and Bangladesh.

Infantino was quoted as saying he respects Moon's idea and that he will talk to Chinese President Xi Jinping about it when the two meet later this week.

FIFA's statues demand a firm stance against any "political interference" in soccer and countries are often suspended from the worldwide game as a result, but the Zurich-based organization agreed with the UAE federation that the Qataris due to officiate over the game against Thailand in Bangkok on Tuesday should be replaced.

Earlier this week Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain cut links with Qatar last Monday, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism.

It is not unusual for Federation Internationale de Football Association to place countries in separate qualifying draws because of disputes, and Infantino said he is in touch with the "highest authorities" in Qatar.

'We are indeed facing a diplomatic crisis.

"If neighbouring Northeast Asian countries including South and North Korea can host the World Cup, I think that would contribute to peace between South and North Korea and in the Northeast Asian region", Moon told Infantino, according to Moon's office.

Firefighter severely burnt in Knysna fire
Via twitter , many people have been volunteering their homes and cars for those leaving the area of the blaze. Strong winds and billowing smoke made it hard for the military to use helicopters to help put out the fires.

FIFA said the decision, which came hours after FIFA president Gianni Infantino said football's governing body should not "interfere in geopolitics", was taken considering the geopolitical situation in the Gulf region.

The two South American nations are keen on staging the tournament to mark the 100-year anniversary of the first World Cup in 1930.

"Obviously, if football can make a small contribution, in any way, to an improvement, I will not hesitate to offer my help".
