The complex issues of the Russian Federation probe, special counsel

Trump's young presidency has been battered by allegations - under investigation both by Congress and the FBI - that Russian Federation interfered to sway the 2016 election in his favour, in possible collusion with Trump's campaign team.

On Wednesday, the Washington Post reported that Mueller was investigating if Trump obstructed justice when he fired Comey.

Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, sent out spokespeople and surrogates with a far-fetched cover story to explain the dismissal, and then told NBC's Lester Holt that the real reason for the firing was Comey's pursuit of the Russian Federation investigation.

Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein submitted a widely circulated memo to the president last month raising concerns over Mr Comey's performance, but Mr Trump later said he had already made the decision to fire Mr Comey.

He is the department's lead official on the issue after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from any issues linked to the Russian Federation probe.

Facebook outlines its AI-driven efforts to fight terrorism

Comey told Congress last week that before being sacked, Trump pressured him to drop an investigation into his former national security advisor, Mike Flynn, who was forced to quit for lying about his links to Moscow.

Trump has said he is "100 per cent" willing to testify under oath on Comey meetings and tell the FBI Special Consul Robert Muller that he never asked FBI to stop investigating.

President Trump tweeted Thursday that Mueller's investigation was being "led by some very bad and conflicted people!" and that he was conducting the "the single greatest witch hunt in American political history".

A member of President Donald Trump's outside legal team says the president is not under investigation, contradicting a recent tweet from Trump.

Mueller is said to be investigating whether Trump obstructed the course of justice in the probe into Russian interference in the United States elections. "I can go around them", Trump said. "The best thing that could happen for the president, and the country, is a full and credible investigation".

The transition official said the organization has also separately asked the General Services Administration to preserve records from the Trump transition that were transferred to its facilities after the inauguration.

A Justice official said Rosenstein was motivated in part because of frustration that recent news stories have unfairly brought on a torrent of "leak" accusations against the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Mueller's team.

"The President's response was as it related to the Washington Post report". But regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey.

Some speculated Brand may have to step in after it was revealed that special counsel Robert Mueller is looking into the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

Trump appears to confirm he is being investigated... Trump has expressed increasing dissatisfaction with the Justice Department since Mueller's appointment.
