Turkish president vows to fight United States arrest warrants

In an affidavit to support an arrest warrant, D.C. Police wrote, "during the course of the official Turkish visit, Turkish security personnel and others assaulted protestors and USA law enforcement officers in at least three separate incidents".

Four other people, two Canadians and two Turkish Americans, were charged, D.C. police said.

Newsham said police worked with the U.S. State Department and the Secret Service to identify the suspects.

The Metropolitan Police Department said in a brief statement that Sinan Narin had been arrested in Virginia on an aggravated assault charge. "Mr. Yildirim, who can be seen on video repeatedly kicking a protester, was charged with two felony counts and one misdemeanor assault count".

Erdogan's security detail returned with him to Turkey after his visit, so it was unclear if any would face any immediate USA legal repercussions. And past year, the police and members of Mr Erdogan's security team clashed with demonstrators outside the Brookings Institution in Washington.

Escaped inmates captured in Tenn., governor says
Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said Thursday that the reward for information on the fugitives had been increased to $130,000. Two escaped inmates who killed two Georgia Department of Corrections Officers in Middle Georgia have been caught.

After the incident, the State Department said in a statement that it was concerned by the violence, saying, "Violence is never an appropriate response to free speech, and we support the rights of people everywhere to free expression and peaceful protest".

The two men arrested Wednesday are Turkish nationals.

The sixteen include twelve agents from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan security detail.

Neither the State Department nor the Turkish Embassy returned requests for comment. The incident left 11 people injured, nine of whom were hospitalized.

Erdogan said the United States had no right to arrest his guards, who he said were protecting him from "terrorists".

Whether or not the Turkish citizens, who were all either Turkish security officers or Turkish police officers, will ever actually face charges in the US remains to be seen. "The police planned to announce the charges at a news conference on Thursday morning, according to the two officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the charges before they were made public". Some Turkish citizens and the head of the president's security detail stepped in. "We take our position in the USA, as the nation's capitol, very seriously".

Video footage showed men in suits charging past police to kick and punch protesters.

Turkey said that the "lapses of security" during Erdogan's stay were "caused by the inability of USA authorities to take sufficient precautions at every stage of the official program".

If Turkey refuses to extradite them, the men could be arrested if they return to the United States in some capacity where they wouldn't have diplomatic immunity. However, the city's police chief said investigators had insufficient evidence to charge Erdogan in what he characterized as a "pretty brutal" attack. Videos streamed live from the scene (and later spread across social media) showed armed guards storming a small group of peaceful, anti-Erdogan protesters in plain sight of federal and local law enforcement officers.

The Turkish Embassy claimed without evidence that Erdogan's bodyguards were acting in "self-defense" during the incident, and that the protesters were affiliated with the PKK (left-wing Kurdistan Workers' Party).
