Carmelo Anthony Trade: Thunder have emerged as unlikely destination

Carmelo Anthony would reportedly waive $8 million trade kicker for Rockets

Unfortunately for Carmelo, the biggest obstacle standing in the way of a deal is that the Rockets don't have much to offer NY.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony have been "officially circling each other", according to Bill Simmons of The Ringer.

Anthony, a 10-time All Star and three-time Olympic gold-medallist, has been at odds with his dysfunctional franchise for some time now, and is said to be willing to waive his "no trade" clause in order to find a more favourable situation.

If Anthony lands in Oklahoma City, it could form another NBA "super team" with 'Melo playing alongside 2017 NBA MVP Russell Westbrook and Paul George, who was acquired by the Thunder via a trade last month. They have made some remarkable changes and trades that were unpredictable.

Turkish tower Kanter has always been dangled as trade bait by the Thunder and is now amid his own four-year deal worth US$70m (NZ$94.1m).

But don't look for the Thunder to sacrifice Adams for what would be a major gamble in Anthony.

Where Adams' defence shuts down other teams' big men around the rim, Kanter provides good scoring numbers from the low-post himself at the other end. Anthony, Westbrook and George can all become free agents next summer.

Anthony's decision regarding his team transfer is expected to be announced soon. Last season, the Thunder went 47-35 before being eliminated by the Rockets in the first round of the playoffs. Weaver has been an assistant GM with the Thunder since the 2010-11 season.

The 10-time All-Star has been the subject of National Basketball Association trade rumors for what feels like the last decade. Trading away a consistent-scoring centre like Kanter does.
