Israel removes security measures outside Al Aqsa mosque

Palestinians stand in front of Israeli forces and newly-installed metal detectors at an entrance to the al Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem

The White House applauded Israel's dismantling of metal detectors near Jerusalem's Al Aqsa mosque to avoid angering Muslims, but Palestinian officials called for sustained protests.

Israel had set up the security equipment following a deadly shooting at the Al Aqsa Mosque compound, also known as the Temple Mount.

His latest comments come amid a major fallout between Israeli authorities and Palestinians over al-Aqsa Mosque.

The police said in a press statement that on Friday, it will deploy its reinforcement in East Jerusalem to prevent any violent clashes that may break out at Al-Aqsa Mosque and in the old city.

Abbas praised in an urgent leadership meeting in the presidential headquarter in Ramallah, the steadfastness of Palestinian Muslims and Christians, particularly in Jerusalem.

He walked onto the Senate floor to a standing ovation, offering a critically needed vote to help Republicans break the deadlock. Their "no" votes signaled that the so-called "clean repeal" bill did not have the support from key Republican senators.

Israeli authorities said the metal detectors were needed because the July 14 attackers smuggled guns into the compound and emerged from it to attack the officers.

On Tuesday, Erdogan had accused Israel of using security measures as a pretext to take over holy sites in Jerusalem from Muslims.

Eshtayeh pointed out that it was chose to resume prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque after hearing a report from the Mufti of Jerusalem Sheikh Mohammed Hussein and the technical committee specialized in confirming the removal of all security measures imposed by Israel in the vicinity of the mosque.

But separate security measures, including closed-circuit cameras and low metal gates, were left in place, angering Palestinian leaders and the population, who have threatened a "day of rage" on Friday.

"All we do is report what happens". So far, at least four Palestinians have been killed and dozens more injured. Whatever the political differences between the Palestinian factions, it is not the people of Gaza who should pay the price, Mladenov underscored, calling on Palestinian leaders to address the destructive consequences of the split.

Manchester City vs. Real Madrid
The Premier League club confirmed on Monday that Mendy has joined on a five-year deal for a reported fee of £52million. Speaking to the club's website , Mendy admitted: "I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City ".

Al-Aqsa Waqf, or pious foundation, a religious trust that manages Islamic buildings at the compound, was hesitant and director Omar Kiswani announced it would not be in a hurry to enter Al-Aqsa.

Although not infrequent, outbursts of unrest linked to the shrine become magnified by the competing Israeli and Palestinian claims to it.

Israel's decision to remove the security measures comes after days of diplomatic efforts by the United Nations, pressure from countries in the region, including Turkey and Jordan, and a visit by US President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy.

In the poll of 502 Israeli adults, conducted by Midgam Research & Consulting, 68% of respondents said installing metal detectors at the Temple Mount's gates following a terror attack there that saw two Israeli-Druze policemen murdered by three Arab gunmen two weeks ago was the correct move.

"Al Jazeera stresses that it would take all necessary legal measures in case they act on their threat", the statement continued.
