Man stabs shopper to death and injures four others in Hamburg shop

Germany has been on high alert since a mass shooting in central Munich last summer and an Islamist truck attack at a Berlin Christmas market in December.

The man was slightly injured.

German police say that four people have been wounded in a stabbing attack at a Hamburg supermarket in addition to the person who died in the attack. The person who was killed was described by police as a customer.

A police spokesperson was quoted by the Telegraph saying that the man started attacking the customers in the supermarket without any warning.

Hamburg police said on Twitter that the motive for the incident in Hamburg's Barmbek district wasn't immediately clear.

"Initial reports about robbery as a possible motive so far have not been confirmed", police said.

Four men suffered stab injuries, while another person was injured trying to overcome the suspect.
