Sen. Cory Gardner's bad votes on Obamacare repeal and replace

Republicans Open Senate Health Care Debate, Falter On First Attempt

Wednesday's defeat made it increasingly likely that Republicans will fall short of keeping their seven-year-long promise to repeal Barack Obama's signature health law and that large portions of it will remain in place, at least for now.

Their "no" votes signaled that the so-called "clean repeal" bill did not have the support from key Republican senators.

Without the state waivers, the skinny repeal bill appears to be limited to eliminating Obamacare's individual mandate and its employer mandate and possibly defunding Planned Parenthood.

Murkowski and Sen. Susan Collins of ME were the only two GOP senators to vote against a procedural vote backed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Tuesday afternoon. "I have consistently voted to repeal and replace this disastrous health care law, and I am glad that a repeal bill will finally reach the president's desk".

Taliban seize 2 districts, kill wounded police in Afghanistan
As per the recent reports, at least 13 militants have been reportedly killed in an airstrike in Afghanistan on Sunday. The Associated Press could not independently verify either death toll.

The goal for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell at the moment is to find a way to get 50 Republicans to back a final bill - whatever it looks like.

"If they can't visit their representatives, we are encouraging people to plan their own rallies to stop the repeal of Obamacare", she said. After 20 hours of debate expire, Democrats will also be able to offer an unlimited amount of amendments - which they hope will force Republicans into casting politically challenging votes. That plan has been dubbed the "skinny repeal", and is an effort for Senate Republicans to just get anything passed, and instead work in conference with House Republicans to come up with a more comprehensive plan.

Booker is basing his information on a recent Congressional Budget Office score that says 22 million Americans could lose their health insurance if the Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives repeal Obamacare without a replacement plan.

The Byrd rule generally blocks provisions that don't affect the federal budget - and blocks provisions whose changes to spending or taxes are "merely incidental" to a larger policy goal.

The 61,000-member statewide organization also urged senators to eliminate numerous mandatory coverage requirements included in Obamacare, eliminate the individual mandate to purchase health care insurance and eliminate penalties for employers who do not provide health insurance coverage for their employees. He walked onto the Senate floor to a standing ovation, offering a critically needed vote to help Republicans break the deadlock.

In the case of a bill that repeals Obamacare and provides no replacement, 32 million more people would be uninsured by 2026 as compared to current law, CBO forecast. The failure highlights the continued struggle Senate Republican leadership is facing in coalescing their conference around one health care proposal. But on Wednesday, a Senate amendment to roll back Obamacare without a replacement was defeated.

The final tally was 51-50, with Vice President Mike Pence breaking the tie after two Republicans joined all 48 Democrats in voting "no". Legislation that emerges from that would have to be passed by both chambers on an up-or-down vote with no amendments.

The Senate parliamentarian, however, advised last week that the waiting period doesn't comply with the Senate rules for passing the bill with a simple majority. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. "And at the end of it hopefully we'll have a bill that can bring us together".
