White House Taps Kansas Governor To Be Religious Freedom Ambassador

Trump Picks Sam Brownback as International Religious Freedom Ambassador

President Donald Trump on Wednesday nominated Brownback to be ambassador-at-large for worldwide religious freedom, a post that would have him advocating for religious freedom around the world.

Brownback's departure would elevate Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer to governor.

"Senator Brownback will, I sincerely hope, see this position as contributing to the national security of the United States", Tom Farr, the president of the Religious Freedom Institute, said. The choice of what you do with your own soul.

From his official Twitter account, the governor tweeted that he is honored to be considered for the position.

Rabbi David Saperstein, a prominent Reform movement activist who was the Obama administration's envoy until January, also prasied the choice.

Six Cong MPs suspended from Lok Sabha for 'unruly behavior'
The six MP who have been suspended are Gaurav Gogoi , Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Ranjit Ranjan, Sushmita Dev, MK Raghav and K Suresh. The Opposition stood up in protest and threw paper all over and shouted slogans saying "Gunda Raj nahi chalega" in the House.

Farr explained that "because of his experience", Brownback "fully meets the two qualifications critical for this position: first, a vigorous understanding of the meaning and value of religious freedom for all, and the ability to communicate that understanding, both as a universal moral value and as a political institution that can serve the interests of every society".

Brownback, a Republican, has served as the governor of Kansas since 2011; he's known for implementing aggressive tax cuts in the state in 2012.

Brownback also served as a USA representative from 1995 to 1996 and as a US senator from 1996 to 2010.

In announcing the post, the White House explained that Brownback has previously "worked actively on the issue of religious freedom in multiple countries and was a key sponsor of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998". FOX 4 meant to hear from Lt. Gov. Colyer and we were told that he's now at a convention for lieutenant governors. "His goal is not to use religion as a way to expand freedom, but to use a narrow, bigoted interpretation of religion to deny freedom to his fellow citizens".

As for Brownback's next gig, The New Republic's Sarah Jones explained that the Kansas Republican is ill-suited for his new role, too.

The New York Times notes, "Kansas lawmakers rolled back Mr. Brownback's tax policies this year, with Democrats and moderate Republicans banding together to override the governor's veto and raise taxes".

As a result, Wolf said, Brownback will be taking over an office with "a lot more power and funding and authority".

"I think (Brownback's appointment), it's going to elevate the position and make this the critical position it really needs to be", he said. Under the new law, Brownback said religious student groups could "establish religious beliefs as qualification for membership". While in the Senate, he chaired the U.S. Helsinki Commission, the parliamentary body that monitors human rights abuses, and was outspoken in identifying anti-Semitism overseas. 'We do not wish him upon the world'.
