Trump to revoke Obama-era flood risk building standards

At a signing ceremony that will take place at his New York City Trump Tower on Tuesday, Trump will reportedly reverse an Obama-era policy from 2015 that directed agencies to set stricter standards for where roads, buildings, public housing, and other infrastructure projects receiving federal funds can be built.

The Federal Flood Risk Management Standard, established by Obama in an executive order, required federally-funded infrastructure projects to "address current and future flood risk and ensure that projects funded with taxpayer dollars last as long as intended".

"And actually, infrastructure is something that I think we'll have bipartisan support on", Trump told reporters at Trump Tower in New York City on August 15 amid a barrage of questions about last weekend's violence in Charlottesville, Va.

One politician in particular-deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce-was especially heated about the issue. That conversation has plunged Mr Hipkins into the middle of a trans-Tasman political scandal .

Since the Carter Administration, federal agencies have been required to avoid building in floodplains, but until 2015, there was no requirement that agencies that couldn't - or wouldn't - avoid building in flood-prone areas take extra steps to make those buildings resilient.

"This is what we will bring it down to; this is less than two years", Trump said. But a Treasury Department report released earlier this year found that "a lack of public funding is by far the most common factor hindering completion" of major transportation and water infrastructure projects. It does not set a minimum dollar amount for project size. So each agency is accountable.

Nick Goldstein, American Road & Transportation Builders Association vice president for regulatory affairs, points to the two-year and 90-day timetables and the lead agency provision and says, "These are good themes in terms of reducing delay in project delivery". "This Executive Order is not fiscally conservative". Suh added, "Arbitrary decisions and artificial deadlines can lead to costly mistakes we'll all pay for down the line".

A Goldman spokesperson told CNNMoney Friday that "we do not support the Maduro regime and will not do business with it". The assembly, which has been placed over the National Assembly, has been tasked with rewriting the constitution.

In 2014, Obama's Vice President Joe Biden said: "If I took you blindfolded and took you to LaGuardia Airport in NY, you must think 'I must be in some third-world country'".

"This over-regulated permitting process is a massive self-inflicted wound on our country".

Representative Ralph Abraham of Louisiana, a Republican who sponsored legislation that would have blocked Mr. Obama's flood standard, said he was thrilled by Mr. Trump's decision.

UN's Migration Agency Says Migrants Were Pushed From Boats
The journey through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden is particularly unsafe during the current windy season in the Indian Ocean. The narrow waters between the Horn of Africa and Yemen have been a popular migration route despite Yemen's ongoing civil war.

"This is them basically telling you spin", said Fugate. "This is yet another outrageous example of Trump's insistence on putting corporate interests ahead of people's health and safety", said Alex Taurel, deputy legislative director with the League of Conservation Voters, a political advocacy group.
